Henry fought in the 2nd World war, a soldier in the SA army.
His home was filled with a great deal of chinese furniture and pictures which he had a passion for.
When Henry was demobilised, he and the other soldiers were allocated 3 areas to choose from to purchase and settle in the Johanesburg area. Henry and Hilda (nee Rabinowitz) chose Rivonia, a very out of town area, very remote.
In order to visit ( from Greenside where the Strous family lived) Rivonia, one had to go for the whole day, You couldnt just go for tea. The joke was that one had to take sandwiches going there, and pillows and blankets for the journey home late at night, in the sand roads.
Henry had an only daughter Penny.
